Prayer. Always a great topic to delve into. Many books look at prayer in the how-to, or more-is-better department, this one is slightly different. The author SQuire Rushnell, and his wife, entertainer and talk-show host Louise DuArt, write from a place of experience. They take time to really dive into the experiences of others and use their words to encourage and inspire other couples to take a 40 day challenge – just 5 minutes a day of prayer time together, for 40 days – intriguing! I think of Noah, Moses, David, Jesus & the disciples, life transformations, could it happen?
A research study from Baylor University found some very interesting results. Those who took the challenge found up to a 30% increase in the following categories:
- Spousal communication elevated.
- Respect rose.
- Agreement becomes the norm.
- Happiness becomes a way of life.
- Satisfaction in lovemaking soars.
Yep, the last category is the zinger. Always a good one to throw out to the hubbies all you ladies! I must admit, this book surprised me. I found myself a bit skeptical at the beginning – not at the concept, but at the thought of me “pitching” this to my beloved. Oh, he prays, he’s just not much into my wild ideas sometimes. As I read the stories of the couples involved, my thoughts began to turn around. Here are some of the names of the couples:
Denzel & Paulette Washington, Kathie Lee & Frank Gifford, Scott & Tracie Hamilton, Kay & Rick Warren, and even Donna Summer & Bruce Sudano – so very cool!
The concept the rings true throughout the book is that the most intimate act is prayer. Scripture tells us that there is fruit available for the picking (Gal. 5:22). But, we have to reach for it. Take it. When we do, God will bless us with rich rewards that no amount of money can buy. Louise and Squire write about the steps that will infuse marriage with love, peace, and joy that God wants you to have. I highly recommend this book. AND, my sweet husband has agreed to this adventure – looking forward to it! What about you?
